From a candy perspective, one of the best things about living in the Detroit area is the close proximity it provides to Canadian sweets. Ever since I was little I have loved these Marshmallow Strawberries that my mom would buy for me when we went to Windsor, Ontario. I was reunited with them on my recent visit to Toronto. For some reason I cannot find them in the United States! Seriously, why can't someone import these babies in bulk?
The marshmallow strawberry is a beautiful thing. Each small, dome-shaped piece is roughly half the size of a real strawberry. A fine, sparkling red sugar covers each pink, strawberry-flavored marshmallow. The flavor of the marshmallow is perfectly artificial strawberry, kind of like strawberry Nesquik - fragrant, but not too sweet. The texture of the marshmallow is perfect. They are not too soft and fluffy, almost like semi-stale Peeps, and we all know Peeps are best when stale.
I think marshmallow strawberries are also readily available in parts of Europe by Haribo, but the Haribo ones are smaller. There is a Canadian retailer that sells them online, Bonbon's Connexion Candy, but I have no personal experience buying from them. If you're ever in Canada try these!

i used to live in canada now i'm in the US and I have been dreaming for 17 years to find these strawberry marshmallows!! I can't believe you have posted them!! I tried that Bonbon's website but they didn't have any available. Is that the olny store you know?? I am SOO excited you posted this, thank you! I will try Haribo, are they still good?
I'm so happy to have found someone else that appreciates the greatness of these candies! I still cannot understand why they are not available in the US. Since the Bonbon's website is out, try this place on the web, Euro Food Mart. They sell the Haribo version from Germany online called "Haribo Primavera". As a fan of the Canadian version, I don't think you'll be disappointed. 17 years is way too long to go without!

I don't really like strawberries as a fruit that much. They're ok. Having said that, these are the most enticing candies - visually - that I've ever seen. Never has there been a candy whose picture made me so curious to taste them. The just look like... pillows of sugary goodness... I ... it's a little overwhelming to look at really.
I'm a Canadian living in the US and I have loved these since I was little. I have also tried to buy these online but have had a lot of trouble finding them. My family still lives in Canada and I have them send me bags of these. I freeze them and if you have never tried one frozen you need to, it's awesome. Anyway, I'm so glad to have found others who also love this great treat!
i want to find the candies so badly there my girlfriends favorite and i can't find any so far and it's bugging me like hell >< i live in Grande Prairie, Alberta, CA. and i can't find any at any stores so far checked 7-8 now and if anyone can find out where i can get some near GP. Not really able to buy over the interent atm but if you do my emails Slasherlol@hotmail.com odd i know but w/e lol hopefully someone can find them for me been looking for awhile now
I love these too but there are a lot of hard, small strange tasting ones and the Haribo ones aren't quite right. I recently bought a little bag and they were the proper ones. I even pinned the bag to my notice board to find out what else they do. Here are the details from the bag: Strawberries by Ladybird Confectionary, Chandler House, Talbot Road, Leyland, UK, PR25 2ZF. They are probably a small, independant sweety manufacturer. Comes in a little bag with a ladybird label. Will now follow your blog since you have such good taste :-)
I like 'A quarter of' retro sweety shop on the web. They have a different type but I haven't tried that type, they look more blobby.

I've ordered different sweets from here and they were very nice.
Right now I am living in windsor ontario and man, these things are great. I'm sorry to hear that they are hard to find in other regions of canada and the US. I didn't realize they were only found around south western ontario.
Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for the PURPLE or GRAPE versions of these strawberry marshmallows (I've been unable to find the purple ones now for the last 20 years or so). Any clues? They were bursting with flavour. I miss them.
Great thread! And thanks for the links, by the way.
I've never seen grape ones, but they sound amazing. I wish I could find them! I have tried a banana version and those are pretty good.
I am from Montreal and have lived in the states for 30 years. I had forgotten about these delicacies until my daughter sent me some. I have looked everywhere on line and couldn't find them. I called the Dare Company and they told me to look on Canadian Favorites.com but they don't have them there either. The Dare Company did say they would pass the inquiry on to marketing.
I live in Canada. Until recently (about 2 wks ago) I was able to get them in Walmart. Then they disappeared. I talked to a manager at Walmart and he said they only get them in the summer (don't ask me why???) When next summer comes around, I'm going to buy out the stores and freeze them so I have them year round.
I was able to find some in a bulk food store, but they go stale (and hard) pretty quickly
